Unpaid Infant Care Leave In Singapore

As a working parent, you are entitled to 6 days of unpaid infant care leave a year if your child is a Singapore citizen.

Eligibility

You are eligible for infant care leave without pay if you meet all the following requirements:

  • Your child is below 2 years of age. This includes legally adopted children or step-children.
  • Your child is a Singapore citizen.
  • You have served your employer for a continuous period of at least 3 months.

Entitlement

Each parent is entitled to 6 days a year of unpaid infant care leave, regardless of the number of children.
If your child is a Singapore citizen and below the age of 2, you are entitled to 6 days of paid childcare leave in addition to 6 days of unpaid infant care leave.

 

What is the increase in Unpaid Infant Care Leave In Singapore effective from 01-Jan-2024?

What are the changes announced in Budget 2023 on 14-Feb-2023 on Unpaid Infant Care Leave?

The Government increases Unpaid Infant Care Leave for each parent in the child’s first two years, from the current six days per year to 12 days per year.

    1. This will give parents more time to bond with and care for their newborn, or to settle caregiving arrangements.
    2. All parents of Singaporean children will be eligible for this additional time off if they have worked with their employer for a continuous period of at least three months.
    3. And this, too, will apply from 1 January 2024 onwards for eligible working parents with Singaporean children aged under two years old.
